What do you get when you put together a group of health-conscious people, home-cooked nourishing meals and great conversation? Well hold onto your hats boys and girls you’re about to find out! There’s a whole new reason to look forward to Fridays. And it’s kind of a big deal. If you care about eating well, feeling well, living well and creating positive change (on a personal and global scale) this is an event you’ll want to get involved in… and no matter where in the world you are, join in and do the same – we’re all in this together. Collectively, we’ll gain more momentum and the power to create true health. If I could give you a word of advice – don’t underestimate the power of the FNF, it’s more than a dinner, it’s a MOVEMENT!
So what’s the big deal?
Simply put, it’s about creating Community. It’s about creating Consciousness around the dinner table. It’s about Connection. Because over the decades we’ve completely lost it – with each other, our food, our farmers, our soil and environment. And that’s where things have spiralled downhill. You see, these very things being overlooked (in favour of a faster life) are critical. The health of our earth is symbiotic with our health, our future and our childrens future. This is why it’s vitally important to understand: that in order to go FORWARD with our health, we need to go BACK – to embracing our food and way of living, the way Mother Nature intended.
“Most people believe we vote every few years, but we don’t. We vote every day for the type of world we want to live in – by where we choose to spend our money, and what we put on the end of our forks.”
Ok, so back to Katoomba. We started off with a cosy group, with each person bringing a dish (prepared with Love like all the best meals are!) with every effort made to source local, organic, sustainable home-grown foods. All in all it was a fantastic night – we ate well, laughed hard (I’m so grateful for my strong pelvic floor muscles!) and had some interesting discussions on food, life, the earth, exercise, love and everything in between! In addition to that, we came away with some interesting recipe ideas and ingredient inspiration to try out for ourselves. Take a look below to see what mouthwatering dishes we cooked up, and get inspired to create your own this Friday!
Jasper couldn’t wait for us to start, thus he was declared chief “taste-tester”
Lorna McKenzie from Offbeat Ceremonies and The Tailors Apprentice cooked her fabulous Gypsy Stew
Simone Novello whipped up a mouthwatering Eggplant Parmigiana
Collettes Wicked Wings are famous all over the mountains- remember you read it here first
Green Salad with Goats fetta and Organic Apple Cider Vinegarette.
Fermented Cortido, Cabbage and Apple Salsa and Ginger Carrots
Blueberry and Apple Souffle
Date, Apricot and Macadamia Balls (this photo was taken well after dinner!)
My sister Kirsty with her Garlic and Ginger Chicken (she lives in London so she’s decided to start her own group!) It’s possible for us all to cook nourishing, healthy meals and get everyone involved!
From now on, as part of each FNF we’ll be screening a Doco’ after dinner. This will be on a relevant topic to gain insight and understanding (to what we could be unknowingly contributing to or consuming that has a negative impact on us or our world). There are some incredible things happening out there, that we aren’t always made aware of in the mainstream, so this is a great way for us to share, discuss and think about how we can take responsibility for our actions and make better choices.
For this weeks FNF we’ll be screening the eye-opening documentary Food Inc, click below to watch the trailer. I guarantee you’ll never look at your food the same way again. Bring your pillow, a blanket and your home-prepared meal – we hope to see you Friday! For more details on FNF’s see the Events page.
